Section Hike No.2
A Day Hike to Experience the Kushiro Wetland from Different Perspectives
Starting from JR Toya Station, the route heads toward Mt. Iwabokki. From the ridge, enjoy sweeping views over the city of Kushiro before following a gentle trail to Hosooka Observatory, where a vast panorama of the Kushiro Wetland unfolds.
After a break at the Hosooka Visitors Lounge, continue alongside the Kushiro River, walking at the same level as the wetland toward Lake Takkobu. The final section circles the lake toward the destination that was visible across the water.
From elevated viewpoints to the wetland itself and the lakeshore, this course lets you experience the many faces of the Kushiro Wetland from a variety of perspectives.

Route Map
Eastern Hokkaido is home to wild animals and human activity in a harsh natural environment. On the Hokkaido East Trail, you can enjoy hiking while experiencing nature and the lives of local people. However, it is essential to prepare for and deal with risks such as encounters with wild animals and sudden changes in weather, as well as be considerate of local people. Also, when hiking long trails, safety is fundamentally your own responsibility. Be sure to gather sufficient information in advance and make a solid plan before hiking. For more information, please see the official Hokkaido East Trail website below.
