Wetland & Dairy Farm Course
A Two-Day, One-Night Journey Using the JR Senmo Line, Through Wetlands and Pastures Across the Wide-Open Landscapes of Eastern Hokkaido
This two-day, one-night course connects the Kushiro Wetland and dairy farming areas by rail and foot. Day one starts from Toya Station. You'll leave the town where people live and gradually enter the forest where wild animals thrive. Walking along the ridge of Mt. Iwabokki will take you to Hosooka Observatory, which offers a panoramic view of the Kushiro Wetland. Travel by rail to downtown Shibecha town to prepare for day two. On day two, the scenery changes completely as you walk through the dairy farming area. You'll progress through the vast scenery typical of eastern Hokkaido, with dent corn fields and cows to your side. Isobunnai Station is the goal for this trip. We also recommend taking a walking trip and looking back from the train window.
Eastern Hokkaido is home to wild animals and human activity in a harsh natural environment. On the Hokkaido East Trail, you can enjoy hiking while experiencing nature and the lives of local people. However, it is essential to prepare for and deal with risks such as encounters with wild animals and sudden changes in weather, as well as be considerate of local people. Also, when hiking long trails, safety is fundamentally your own responsibility. Be sure to gather sufficient information in advance and make a solid plan before hiking.
